Did you see last night's episode?
First, Oshawa, Ontario declared March 20th (the mayor's birthday) Stephen Colbert day because Stephen's Saginaw Spirit won - no thanks to Stephen Cobeagle, I'm sure.
I love his enthusiasm for his Saginaw Spirit.
How can you not?
But the best part, besides the Word, which always rules, was the culmination of his bitter fight with Wille Nelson.
As you know (or should know), Ben & Jerry puts out celebrity ice cream. This year, they released Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream ice cream. He was so happy to be the only celebrity chosen this year, what an honor, etc.
But no, the hippies who control the ice cream world decided to make two. (They probably make two each year, I've never eaten Ben & Jerry ice cream, but I saw a Mad parody of their celebrity pints.)
The other celebrity? Willie Nelson.
He came on the show last night and Stephen was so angry he needed a mediator, some guy from the '90s who helped end the Bosnian Civil War (why do I remember that, but not his damn name? grr), to work this out.
"Which one of us is worse than Milosevic?" Stephen!
"All diplomats carry their own spoons." Sage words.
To put an end to this horrible fight, they had to try each other's ice cream (Willie's is Peach Cobbler mixed with shredded tax papers and hash). Willie took a bite of Stephen's and said it was good, and Stephen gracefully accepted his apology.
When we came back, Willie was singing "On the Road Again". Then Stephen came out, along with white-diplomat-guy-from-the-90s (ARGH!) to sing with him.
It was so damn awesome.
It reminded me of the last episode of 2006 - when he was fighting another musician(s). The Decemberists' Green Screen Challenge was a direct copy of his, I think (I watched sporadically until December, so I missed most of that fight). So they challenged him to play guitar, and he naturally accepted. Because he rocks.
But oh no, the night of the challenge, he cuts his hands! Right before playing!
So he had Peter Frampton sub for him.
And Henry Kissinger, via satellite, was one of the judges.
Kissinger!
How does he get such great guests?
And is it true people take him seriously? (He's on Comedy Central, for pete's sake!)
And yeah, the Daily Show was awesome, I disagreed with the guest a thousand percent, but John Bolton? Former ambassador to the UN? On the Daily Show?
I love the guests they get. I saw Kurt Vonnegut on the Daily Show thanks to youtube, and I saw Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda on the Colbert Report the same way. (They got to kiss him! He made feminists talk about feminism while wearing aprons and standing in front of a rolling counter - apple pie, I think they were making. But they kissed him!)
Which brings me to what sucks the suck out of life right now, youtube.
I started watching X-files music videos on youtube and quickly got hooked. It takes a long time to load, but unlike other video players, it actually loaded for me. (My favorite X-files videos - Monster Mash and Stuck in the Middle With You)
Then I discovered '80s videos were on there. And then I found Daily Show and Colbert Report clips. Luckily, I got to watch many of these on a high speed connection.
But since they got bought by google, more and more videos have been pulled. I know there are Daily Show and Colbert videos on Comedy Central's site, but they don't work for me. Literally. Will not load. And they pulled the 'You Sexy Thing' video of Stephen Colbert! (I got to see that on a high speed connection as well.)
And I have no idea where to find Dexy's Midnight Runners anymore.
But my favorites were Prince (I watched Kiss too many times - not there's such a thing as too much Prince) and they got pulled before the google purchase. At least I got to see them.
There are two Daily Show clips I love. Steve Corddry reporting on something terrible in the Middle East with a huge smile on his face before breaking down and cheering - the Red Sox won! The other is a bit more recent, it involves one of the new guys, John Oliver. (Very cute, especially with the accent.) It's about his immigration struggle, it was so damn funny.
They need to put out more DVDs. And MTV2 (which plays videos, or used to play older videos) should come standard with our cable. We have three ESPNs, but only one MTV and VH1?

Wickett and his Sense of Entitlement
I read this post at Feministe today, and some of the comments are so funny.
Part of it is being a man means spreading your legs when you sit.
And like I always do, I think of the dogs.
Wickett, to be exact.
He is obscene.
He must lay down (even sleep?) with his back legs wide open because he just has too much junk down there - even after getting fixed. He's doing it right now, under the computer desk. Dogs!
Mikey doesn't do it, he never stretches out. Dixie stretches out all the damn time, oh her paws are moving in her sleep, how dear. But Wickett is the king of stretch, draped over the couch cushion, front legs flopped over, and back legs wide open.
We've always known it has something to do with him being the manliest man that ever manned the Earth.
Oh, he heard me typing and shut his legs. It's a trip to watch him. "The leg's going up! No! It didn't make it. Oh, there it goes. What a man."
Sorry for the pornographic image, but he's the man.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!
yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!
I QUALIFY FOR ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to do a flip on the trampoline, damn that Robert for breaking it! (I can't do flips, but eeeeeee!)
I just got a call from the dude in charge of scholarships, he got the fax from my primary care doctor detailing the hell of the summer and fall (that was drawn up in November for the school I was going to go to, but didn't, and then I was charged for the financial aid, missed the deadline because nobody told me, but I could still use my health to explain why I didn't go) and the rambling 3 page letter from me deatiling the last year.
YES!
I haven't even heard about financial aid yet - screw up with my high school transcript that was taken care of today.
BUT I'M GETTING AN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I qualified at first glance due to my scores, but then they said, "Nope, you took a year off, you lazy slacker, we're not giving you a dime."
Then we talked to the real people in charge and they said, "Give us medical documentation and you can still qualify."
AND I DO!!!
They're sending out the scholarship offer letter this week. Like I'm turning it down?!
*more girlish screaming*

I'm too scared of the bathroom
Not because there are rats in the pipes - we totally caught a field mouse this weekend under the kitchen sink, so there could be giant carnivore rats in our septic system. There could. Prove there aren't.
Not because of the psycho behind the shower curtain.
Or the psycho that will kill me if I go into the shower.
I'm scared of the actual main act in the bathroom right now.
I'm scared because I'm in bad pain right now, and I know even peeing will make it a thousand times worse.
Something is wrong, isn't this a quality of life issue?
Oh great, now I'm crying.

Mikey and his Pathetic Looks
However, he's not too weak to chase me around the house or hump Dixie's neck, so...
I just took the top one today. What a cute little monkey.
He has an appointment with the vet today. The vet put him on 3mL of iron a day after his pre-op blood test showed he was anemic, which is why Mikey still has literal balls, while Wickett only has metaphorical cajones. It's so sad.
Actually, Dixie's the ballsiest of them all. Saturday, brat girl wanted on the couch, and didn't care, for once, that I was stretched out on it. She didn't want to get on the couch to bark at people or dogs or shadows, she wanted to sleep on the couch. So she hopped up, right on my legs.
But normally, if this or that pillow is not right, she'll just whine until you fix it.
And when I fall asleep on the couch and Mom's watching TV on the other one, Dixie apparently spends quite some time hitting me with her nose and paws because she belongs on the couch, dammit. But she always gives up and flops down next to the couch. Last week, I woke up overheated and threw all the blankets off. Then I wondered, "Where's Dixie? She's not outside, the dimwits are over there..."
She was under the blankets and she wasn't moving.
She'll give up a spot on the couch without a fight, but the eyes and the guilt!
Mikey's small enough to share, but he'll get down soon after you sit near him. (As long as you are not his beloved human, my mom.)
Wickett's smaller, so he should share. He sits as high up as possible - the top of the back cushions or a pile of pillows and blankets at the end. So a person should be able to sit or lie down with him on the couch with no problems.
Should, not can. That brat hops up and starts barking and chasing you - try to sit down at one end, he's flopped out at the other, legs everywhere, seemingly comfortably asleep. But no, he's up and yelling.
He'll get off, then come back and snuggle, slapping at you with his teeny paws. "Love me."
When he does this to Mom and she pets him, Mikey gets pissed.
So he gets on the couch too, cuz he's the man.
But he doesn't want to snuggle with anyone, he just doesn't want anyone else near his mommy.
He's put out when she sleeps on the couch, he has to sleep in the living room? On the floor? On a blanket? The horror, the horror!
So where does Doofus sleep when Mom does sleep in her bed?
On the floor. On his Harry Potter blanket.
Unless Wickett or one of Mom's human children come in, then he must get up there and growl and be tough - it's his Mommy, his bed, his house, why don't we understand that?
I am going to rant and ramble, and you can't stop me.
First up: my health and how much it sucks right now and why I need robotic body parts. Or a new body - I saw it on the TeeVee, TeeVee don't lie.
My abdominal muscles and nerves are healing, but I still have endometriosis. All the symptoms are practically textbook, but my (male) Gyn says he doesn't know if it is the cause of the horrible, excruciating pain. I started Lupron for the second time in February, four weeks ago this Wednesday. Lupron puts you in a chemical menopause.
The first time I was on it, last summer, we went to Nebraska to visit family around the Fourth of July. Aunt Jenny has air conditioning, but her house is a leaky old farmhouse, so unless you're on top of the grate when air is coming out, it's humid, hot, and miserable. I had a huge fan in my room, but all it did was move the hot air around. One night, I actually slept on the floor grate in the upstairs hallway. It was still the first month of Lupron, I got the first monthly shot around the 15th of June. Hot flashes are a bitch.
When I went to Washington (I was better, dammit, I'm going to school there!), the gyn I saw there took me off Lupron before the 6 month cycle was complete. I only had shots in June, July, August, and September. (I came home in October, after about a month up there, I didn't go to school, and that really bothered my uncle.)
The thing about Lupron is - it proves nothing unless the pain goes away. If the pain goes away, yay, I have endometriosis! If it doesn't, I could still have it, because some people don't respond to the medication. So my gyn makes no promises about the future, about what's wrong with me, all he can do right now is treat the pain.
The pain sucks, naturally. Last night, I hit 10 on the 1-10 pain scale used in hospitals. It hasn't been that bad today, but it's always been worse in the afternoon and evening.
Yesterday, I was nauseated all day, whether I ate or not. I also started bleeding again, something that should not be happening because, in addition to the Lupron, I'm still on birth control.
I've been getting some wicked headaches at the front of my head, so they may just be sinus related - it is spring time, and I do live near a cotton field. And I've had a sore throat and minor drainage for a few weeks now.
And the hot flashes started yesterday with a bang. It's March. It's Memphis. It sucks, I couldn't cool down even in short shorts and a sports bra. I haven't had any yet today, which is good, and I haven't been nauseous, which is great. I also haven't been hungry. I haven't been hungry a lot since the shot, maybe even before. And when I am hungry, I can only eat a little bit before getting sick to my stomach.
I've had cameras stuck down my throat and into another orifice 3 times in the last year, that latest the first week of November - just the throat, stomach, and the upper part of the intestines. In September, I had the same. May was both ends, yuck. In May, they found ulcers. In September and November, they found signs of ulcers, but nothing that can cause pain.
I've seen a gastro doctor for at least 4 years now, I always have an upset stomach, and in the last year, bowel movements have started to hurt, along with emptying my bladder. But there's nothing inside the intestines or bladder to explain it. There's still a kidney stone in the left kidney, itty bitty, but it's in the kidney and going nowhere, as of right now.
The kidney stones are made of calcium, of course. So stop taking calcium. Nope, no parathyroids, they were removed with my thyroid because they were too small and damaged to function. So I'm stuck with the threat of kidney stones for the rest of my life.
Speaking of kidney stones, let me tell you the horror story of last July and August.
The summer was painful. We assumed it was endometriosis, and would go away as the Lupron kicked in. Eventually, I had to go to the ER, where they did a cat scan and found that my right kidney was swollen to twice its size because stones were in the ureter, blocking everything. Since the kidney was swollen, it pushed everything, which is why I had pain everywhere, not just on the right side.
My first urologist that I saw with the first, easy kidney stone that passed on its own, screwed up big time. He told us he would put a stent in my right kidney to drain it, and then use lithotripsy to blow the stone up so it would pass in pieces.
The day of the procedure was July 26th. I woke up in worse pain than I had when I came in. He told us that he never said he'd do the lithotripsy that day, and the lithotripsy equipment wouldn't be at that hospital until August 8th. I remember my horror, along with writhing on the hospital bed in tremendous pain.
I told the nurses and the doctor that something was wrong, and was told that people live with pain. I was flabbergasted at that. "I have pain, your mom has pain, people live with pain."
I did nothing the next two days but watch cable (we got it because I was told I'd be like this until August 8th, and I needed something to watch when my brain was fried from pain or pain meds and couldn't read. We still have it.) and leak urine. My mom bought Depends for me.
There was a string hanging out Wednesday, and it got farther and farther out until Friday morning, when we went back to the doctor. I had to sleep on the couch so I'd be downstairs where my mommy could keep an eye on me, and Thursday night, the stent did its job, and my bladder emptied, soaking the diaper, the sheets I was laying on, and the couch cushion. We had to get a new one.
I remember getting up Friday morning, stripping everything off, and running to the downstairs shower, a little trail of urine following me. I was crying in the shower, and the blue stent had dropped even farther - I could see the damn thing!
We went straight to the doctor and he accused me of pulling it out when wiping hurt for those lovely 48 hours. They told me to sit on the table, not even putting down extra protection because of the urine. He pulled it out, that hurt like hell, and said we'd have to wait until the 8th, and without a stent, my kidney would fill back up, it was my fault, not his.
So we went home, about a 20 minute drive, and Mom hit every pothole she could.
She called my case manager, and she said go to the hospital with the lithotripsy equipment now.
So we did, we went to the ER at the hospital that had the equipment. I checked in Friday evening, probably, because of the time spent in the ER. However, we got to the ER by 10 and saw a doctor by 11, and they could not contact my urologist.
I did not get seen by a urologist until Sunday afternoon, and nothing was done until Tuesday, when they said they got rid of all the stones and put a new stent in. That one was to come out the 14th. I was still in a lot of pain, and when I had the stent removed I kept saying something's wrong, something's wrong and was told nothing was wrong.
We went to the ER that night and something was wrong, there was still a stone in the ureter. The docs refused to believe us, so we had to bring the cat scan results to them. Then I was checked in to a different hospital as an adult. It was the 15th, I spent my 18th birthday (August 11th high as a kite.
The 16th, they did another lithotripsy, placed another stent and sent me home. That stent came out the 18th, thankfully.
Since then, my kidneys have been fine, but I've still done two 24 hour urine collections, and they are such a pain.
One theory as to why I'm having gastro and urinary pain when there's nothing inside is that the endometriosis has attached itself to the organs and body parts in question, causing lots of pain. And you can't prove that without doing another laprascopy, opening me up.
And that went well - it caused major nerve and muscle damage. Though the laprascopy isn't entirely to blame, there was the kidney stuff in the middle. The nerve problem was diagnosed in November, the muscles January. I take my meds, I do my physical therapy.
Well, that's about it, I have some low grade pain right now, 5-6 on the scale, I'm not moving to see if it gets better or worse.

Dixie and her Rug and her Tongue
The Trampoline is dead.
He will remain nameless, the evil person who broke the trampoline. We're just glad he wasn't doing a backflip. His legs got scraped up a bit, Becky put gauze on his leg with purple duct tape.
The folder this picture came from is soooooooo funny. Boy number #1 is up in the air, then down on the trampoline. Boy #2 is up in the air, then down on the ground. Becky was taking the pictures.
We've had this trampoline since 2000, at least.
Our next door neighbor on the base, who was also named Becky but was in middle school when I was in 2nd grade, broke her ankle jumping on a trampoline with a bunch of friends, so the official rule at this house was "NO TRAMPOLINES".
Then there was a divorce and Daddy Dearest moved out.
So it's a weekend in the fall or late summer, and we're on a nice family walk, just the three of us.
Well, someone down the street was having a yard sale and one of the things for sale was a trampoline. For $25!
The mother said her boys had outgrown it, after doing many stupid things on it, like ride their bikes across it. (There were bike treads on it when we got it.) One of the boys helped us set it up, and later on, his mother worked at the same law office where my mom's lawyer works, but not for him.
Anyways, this thing has always been a lot of fun.
It once flew across the yard on a stormy tornado-siren night. It hit the fence and I think damaged it. (The previous neighbor had a privacy fence erected along the standing chain-link because his two pure-bred Retrievers barked too much at Dixie, and vice versa. Before they eventually moved, the three dogs worked together to dig a hole underneath the fence, because they wanted to play. Luckily, I found out about it along with the neighbor's daughter before her dad did, because he hated Dixie, and we had to block it with cinder blocks. It's still there.)
Monday night, Mom and I had a picnic up there, just Subway sandwiches and begging dogs, but god, what simple fun it provided. Jumping was always fun, but so was laying up there, staring at the sky, be it the night sky or the day sky.
We've slept on this thing on nice summer nights. My friend Jessie and I slept out there, burrowed into many blankets the night before my birthday. When Becky and Natasha slept up there one sumer night, I couldn't find Mikey in the backyard, he was gone. No, there was the little apricot head sitting among his wimmens.
One of the best games we used to play was so stupid and so dangerous, naturally. One of us would lay down on our stomach and hold onto the outer ring. Then the other two girls would jump, bouncing me or Becky or Hollie or Melissa around like crazy.
The trampoline legs had a sticker saying no more than one person at a time.
We used to do that when someone was flipping, but that evolved into sitting or standing on the side.
The boy who broke it? Robert. The boy who didn't? Jonathan.
They were just 2 of the many people of both genders of all ages to jump on this thing. For most of my 9 year old cousin's life, the trampoline has been there and every time she comes over, she has to jump.
I'm out of things to say, so I'm just going to post some pictures. Snow on the trampoline was always an amazing sight. And yes, that's me in the last two.

Frankly, we're surprised it lasted so long.

Pandas are EEEEEEEEEVIL.

Pandas are cute.
That is a given, everyone loves pandas and their babies, even "manly men" do because they are just too, too, too cute! (I'm biased, I get a daily dose of cute, courtesy of Cute Overload.) I mean, I want one, damn reality and the 3 animals we already have, I need a panda.
Conversation just now:
Me: "Can we get a panda?"
Mom: "Sure, there are plenty at the Humane Society."
See, she understands.
But she doesn't know what evil lurks in the hearts of pandas, and I do.
I have spent a few months (less than 3) reading about it here. It's disgusting and vile and I was there before the head panda worked her way into John Edward's campaign. Yeah, that's right, I said panda. She didn't resign because of her views or language, no, it was because they were going to out her as a non-human.
But I know the truth, and I have said it here, on my little-read blog.
Take that, Marcotte!
Actually, I adore Pandagon. But it is an evil website. I've always known I was a liberal, pro-choice feminist as soon as I knew anything about the issues. It was nothing I can pinpoint, but as I became aware of the world around me and the president (yes, after September eleventh - I'll discuss that more another day) and politics.
I just knew I was a hairy legged commie. It may have something to do with the fact that I hate shaving my legs (you don't wear glasses in the shower, how can you see the little hairs? And my little sister lied, she said the blonde fuzz would come back as blonde fuzz, not sharp and black). So I just latched onto feminism to excuse my hairy legs. I mean, duh.
Anyways, I just knew. But I didn't discover liberal blogs until December, I believe. For some reason, Mallard Fillmore pissed me off one day, and I just started looking for others who didn't like him. Some liberal blogs that aren't just about "serious" politics mentioned him, and I followed the links. Feministe came before Pandagon, and Reclusive Leftist came before both, I think. I got Reclusive Leftist from Lean Left, which I have since abandoned. (LL, not RL.)
However, Pandagon is still evil, along with Feministe. Why? They are addictive, and I want to read almost every post ever made. I can't tell you how many pages from Pandagon and Feministe are in my favorites right now. And I'll probably never finish them all, because most of the time, there's a link to another post in the body of the post, not to mention the evil previous and next post links at the top of the page. So I add more and more to my favorites, as I try to empty the folder.
Evil pandas.

Look at them, you just know they have some evil planned. It wouldn't surprise me if the photographer was mauled shortly after this picture was taken.
A serious note on the Edward's campaign and Amanda Marcotte - that brought in a lot of new readers and commenters, some who hate her and her ideals. It's very tedious and makes no sense to me. You know you hate her, why say it on her blog? Again and again. There are trolls on older posts too, but they're not saying the same thing again and again. Any time someone wants to talk about the campaign, there are many people there to say "You're a potty-mouthed bigot, you need mental help(saw that today on Feb 18th page.), and this is an echo chamber, anyone who disagrees is banned, etc, etc."
I saw the third all the time at Nytram's Place, after he made the decision to ban a poster who'd said she was dying of cancer, then came back and called us all hypocrites because she wasn't and if you fighted with her one day over politics, how could you offer sympathy to her the next over illness? Perhaps because we were sympathetic idiots who knew the person behind the posts was, just that, another human being and political views shouldn't get in the way of common decency. So now people come to the board from time to time, trolling.
I would never go to a right-wing (or anything I hated) blog or message board and say, "I hate you. You're wrong."
I'd come here and say that, if I felt so motivated. I haven't, so far.
That's the thing I don't understand - some of these people that hate her (or want to pray for an avowed atheist) get so worked up, judging from their comments. I can't fathom why you'd frequent a site you hate, that attacks everything you believe in. Life is stressful enough, we don't have to read what we don't want to read. If the comments go into the hundreds at Pandagon, I usually close the page before finishing them all, and I love the comments at Feministe, Reclusive Leftist, and Pandagon. But the new people at the third are sucking all the fun out of it. They think that by saying they hate her and disagree with her and they'll pray for her will do what... exactly? Make her change the site to nothing but panda pictures? (I could get behind that.)
So I close the page, I don't have to read what I don't want to read (outside of school). I've read a couple Ann Coulter books, and I've read two Michael Moore books. I didn't enjoy any of them. I do, however, like PJ O'Rourke's books and Al Franken's. (I have Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them. Both bought at the Salvation Army, but not at the same one.)
I remember I read How To Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) and Slander, I think around the 2004 election. Talk was easier to read than Slander, because it was just her reprinted columns. I had to force myself to finish Slander, and I gave up on Treason. I wanted to read them so I could say I'd read them, read things from a different view point, but I couldn't slog through another one of her books. And all I know about Godless is what I've seen on the Daily Show and liberal blogs.
(All Coulter, O'Rourke, and Moore books were library books, as was Franken's latest.)
I wanted to be "balanced" and read different opinions, but I didn't really want to. So I stopped.
And I'm not about to start. So I don't understand why other people feel the need to read things they hate.
Life's a pain as it is, why would you seek out things that make you mad?
Pandas may be evil, but they don't control anything beyond their own websites. They don't force people to read their sites. No blogger forces people to read their blog. (Okay, I do, but that's because nobody reads mine.)
So, to sum up - pandas are evil, I have too many pandagon and feministe posts in my favorites to read, and people who seek out and frequent websites they already know they hate are morons. Goodnight.
The Reverend Billy Graham Confuses Me By Agreeing With Me.
In part.
This is from yesterday's M section, March 9th. I had TV to watch once the sun went down (Las Vegas and Law and Order baby! The L&O was from the start of the season and had Chevy Chase as the Mel Gibson character, complete with Sugartits. (Which is totally one of Wickett's new nicknames. He used to be called TeeTee because he "teetee'd" all over the house, and I guess she is too much of a lady to call him a walking pisspot when she catches him peeing or titshit when he acts like a rotten shit.)
There was a good point made - spoilers, I don't care, this is its second run on TV. Chevy's kid killed the lady, and to get the kid less jail time, they were going to charge Chevy with child abuse because he'd passed on the anti-Semitic torch. Jack McCoy said his dad was an Irish cop who would rant about the Blacks, the Hispanics, the Ukrainians, and every one who wasn't Irish. The new female ADA (who knows how long she'll last or if she'll get TV show of her own later on - Jill Hennessy has Crossing Jordan now, another show I adore.) said something along the lines of see, you did the right thing and came to your own conclusions. Jack's reply?
"Only because I hated the old man."
That was so funny to me (I was in horrific pain that went away within the hour.) and it was so true. My dad is a bigot. He was raised that way, and he loves his mother and his dead stepfather, going so far as to keep stepdad's name, when his two other siblings kept their father's name. (So did the youngest, but he's my dad's stepdad's biological son.)
My dad's a bigot and a conservative.
I don't like my dad at all.
It was just too funny, too true. I think I would have reached my own conclusions about life and people, but who knows, if they'd never divorced, this could be a conservative blog, weeping about Libby's conviction (not from laughing too hard) because Libby forgot something. We all forget things. Tim Russert forgets things - and it's on camera! And they convicted Russert. Travesty of justice. That's what Charles Krauthammer said in his op-ed piece printed in the Commerical Appeal yesterday. Basically, the paper's in the outside trashcan.
Back to my main point - Billy Graham agreed with me! And confused me.
A person wrote in asking if God knew people would get all murderous and imperfect. If he did, why didn't he make us good?
The Reverend's answer is straightforward, and he agrees with me on one point - God wanted us to have free will so we'd choose to love him, because love is more real if it is chosen. (I agree with that.) He ended up saying accept Jesus for your salvation, blah blah.
But what he started with makes no sense, and my sister can't answer my question about it. (She's a Methodist and doesn't go to church services, she sticks with her youth group. They don't believe what the Baptists believe, and they don't judge other religions. Clearly, she is going to hell.)
Where did God get the idea to make people? Is there a race of cosmic beings who have their own planets, and he saw the nearest one and the god forced his creations to love him and he didn't like that. Or the Sims existed back then in some form.
In the Big Book of the Unexplained, God or whatever is in charge, is called the Cosmic Trickster. I like that. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Mississippi loves babies so much!
If Roe vs. Wade is overturned, abortion will be banned in the state.
Until that happens, they've settled for offering women considering an abortion to listen to the fetus's heartbeat and see a sonogram. And a minor who doesn't have her parent's consent has to get it from the courts.
Last week, I remember seeing in the paper that Mississippi has ONE abortion clinic, in Jackson. One!
The Alabama Planned Parenthood is quoted in the article in today's paper saying if they really cared, they'd work with PP by not blocking contraceptives and comprehensive sexual education.
No wonder there are so many teen parents around here. The only sex ed we got at school was a video on STDs and a handout on wearing a condom.
There's a common thing brought up by anti-choicers - "If the fetus isn't a person, why is someone charged with killing two people when they kill or hurt a pregnant person?"
Well, the woman chooses to have an abortion, she doesn't choose to be attacked.
I think it's that simple.
As for minor's needing court orders, do they just want more teen parents in Mississippi?
I know why a minor wouldn't have her parents' consent, she doesn't want them to know she had sex!
But it's not law yet, Gov. Barbour hasn't signed it yet. He's expected to.

Some irony in the paper
Sometimes I get it in my head to read each section of the paper, and yesterday evening was one of those times. I skipped the sports, though, I always do. And I made it through all but one page of business. And I skipped the main article in the M section, but! I read the first 2 sections entirely.
Of course, I'm referring to them labeling Bill Gates as Robert Gates! What a knee-slapper! Actually, it was silly because it was a bit on Bill Gates supporting more immigrants, and we know how the Bush Administration feels about that.
No, what I'm talking about is even more obscure.
I always get a kick out of reading the 'Memphis Memories' in the B section.
The shocking piece was from one hundred years ago, 1907. Brace yourself. I read it to Dixie and she hasn't spoken a single word since! Just a warning, for the faint of heart.
Apparently, in Annapolis, The Naval Athletic Association spent $4,598 to maintain the Naval Acadamey's football team, and that amount is more than half the total expenses for the year for all sports! Try to contain yourself, readers. Most of the people involved are now dead, and institutions of education and their supporters have stopped spending so much and placing so much emphasis on sports. It's 2007, after all.
Wait, I just got a bulletin, no they haven't. The Memphis Tigers are still important to the school and the area, and Memphis Mayor Willie Hereton doesn't like them playing at Memphis landmarks. The basketball team used to play in the Pyramid. When the Grizzlies came to town, a new court was in order, the FedEx Forum. Which looks like every other damn 'forum' in the world. And the Stones were there in 2005 and I didn't get to go. And I remember the reason people were pissed about the Grizzlies and the Forum, beyond the money, was one of their conditions of play - nobody else can play when they're playing at home. But it was mostly the money.
Well now, the Mayor (appointed by God, he claimed a couple years ago. I just read the Big Book of the Unexplained, and 'God', or what created/controls the world, is called the Cosmic Trickster. I like that. And if God's a Cosmic Trickster, than sure she/he/it would appoint Willie Herenton and George Bush.) wants to build a new football stadium, because the Liberty Bowl isn't good enough to attract a football franchise, and that's what Memphis needs to get people to move here and care about us. Not improving schools, fighting crime, getting rid of corruption in office, but a new football stadium.
The Pyramid may be sold to Bass Pro Shops. Which means we lose the Wonder Series. I can't find a link for it, there used to be a page, but when the Pyramid closed, they must have taken it down. They didn't bring enough money. At least we still have the Pink Palace. (The wax people scare me, but you get to walk through a replica of the first Piggly Wiggly!)
Actually, the thing in the paper I meant to write about happened after the Naval Athletic Associated spent $4,598 on football.
Read that again. "the Memphis and Shelby County Democratic Women's Victory Club." What are the last three words? "Women's Victory Club." It was the Women's Club. And yet they were still identified by their husbands' names, unless Mrs. Hayley was unlucky enough to named Hugh, and Mrs. Wellons was not the boy her parents expected.

Mrs. G.T. Fitzhugh, Mrs. J.W. Monks, Mrs. Hugh S. Hayley, Mrs. D.B. Puryear, Mrs. George Wellons, and Mrs. P.J. Hackett yesterday were elected officers of the Memphis and Shelby County Democratic Women's Victory Club.

Wickett and his Ears
I LOVE the Daily Show

You know something's funny when you laugh when no one's listening.
Tonight, in the first segment, Rob Riggle was the war correspondent who supported the President.
"What's unclear about 'no doubt'? Well, maybe the silent 'b'..."
And his description of getting hit was so gruesomely HILARIOUS, I hope you got to see it.
Let's see what I remember, ten minutes later.
"Brooklyn was to the left of me, Lefty on my right. We were drawing straws to see who would wear the Kevlar vest when we got hit."
"Oh my God, was it an IED...?"
"No, insurgents had planted a copy of the New York Times in the glovebox. Lefty got 800 words of Maureen Dowd between the eyes. The poor kid never even got to see the Style section."
I was hitting the floor, laughing so hard, and no one was awake.
I'm going to check out this On Call in Hell by Richard Jadick when I get a chance. (He's a urologist. I hate my first urologist. He told me people live with pain, so shut up, right after he'd put a stent in my right kidney the wrong way - it fell out 2 days later, along with all the urine that had blocked my right kidney, fun, fun, fun!)
And then I've got the Colbert Report to laugh my ass off...
Why are these shows only 30 minutes long? Why are they only on 4 nights a week?
Why is there only one DVD? (Indecision 2004, supplemented by this awesome YouTube clip.)
And why can't I marry both Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert?
There some legal reason I don't know about here.
*checks mail* Ah, restraining orders. That would explain it.
The Colbert Report consistently cracks me up, and I love how much he loves the Stephen Cobeagle the Eagle mascot, how much he loves the Saginaw Spirit, and how much he cares for the eagle named after him.
Okay, I wasn't completely alone, the dogs were ignoring me, barking to be let out of Mom's room, and barking to get in the house. The humans, however, were asleep. And I'm still laughing my ass off.
Update - I'll settle for the guy who runs Make magazine, he was the guest on the Colbert Report tonight, and they ended up shooting marshmallows at each other. And I'm positive Colbert won the lottery, he bought ten tickets, what a shocking idea, why didn't I think of that? Since he's now obscenely rich, Crime Scene Investigation will now be Colbert Scene Investigation. I'd watch all 3 if that was the case.
Speaking of CSI, they've had Kevin Federline guest star, but not Stewart or Colbert. Something is gravely wrong here...

Pure Evil at One in the Morning
I had to be awake by 9 am today to go the crisis center where I totally entered letters A through F into the computer. I'm so awesome. (We're trying to enter the 20th century here, I'm on Windows 98, entering client's information into the address book program that came with the computer. I think I'm the one to do it because I'm the youngest volunteer by a wide margin.)
But I had to watch the X-files on TNT. Even with their dreadful commercial chopping of shows in syndication, I had to watch it. The episode was Irresistible. Literally. That's the title.
The criminal star could fit into today's CSIs or Law and Orders, no problem. But in 1994, he was unique. Donnie Pfaster. What a creep, what a great actor, I pity him for playing such an evil character, I'm sure he's done good characters that don't kill women and take their fingernails and hair, but this one sticks with you.
This episode follows the X-files pattern - freaky thing happens, Mulder and Scully show up to investigate, one of them is in trouble, the bad guy or thing is killed or arrested, end of story.
But it was not a typical one.
There was nothing supernatural about this episode, much like Home, an episode that aired October 11, 1996. And just like Home, this episode's creepiness was uncommon at the time, for a time, Home was removed from syndication, it is that creepy. But with the popularity of CSI and its level of goriness, Home and Irresitble are tame in comparison.
But they never fail to scare me.
People see Donnie as a demon, but there's nothing supernatual about it - he is pure evil, and your subconscious sees what you refuse to see at times.
It is a beautiful episode, and one of the few that had a great follow-up episode, Orison. There is a more supernatural aspect to that one, but it's still about the evil that lurks under a seemingly normal person.
The episode is one of the scariest because he's a normal person, physically at least. He possesses no powers, he's just an ordinary man, your ordinary psychopath next door.
No nightmares afterwards, I am pleased to report. None that I remember, at least.

Losing My Religion
Not that I had any to begin with.
In the 'M' section of our paper - I hate the name too, it's meant for women because it stands for everything women love - men and Memphis and other m things! I remember a few angry letters to the editor, but whatever. Monday is Health Day, Wednesday is Food, Friday is Home and Garden, Saturday has 2-3 religious pages - church listings, what this church group did, blah blah - Sunday is fashion, romance, and travel. It's also home to the comics, and only women read those, as well, I suppose. It's home to the crossword and other puzzles, as well as the advice columns - Miss Manners, "Annie's Mailbox", Doctor Gott, and, the point of this post, Billy Graham.
Every one of the Reverend's answers ends with God sent his only son down, accept him into your heart, and all will be well.
Today, a kid (or someone pretending to be a kid) wrote in asking where did God come from? Does God have a Mommy and a Daddy? Will God die? (Yes, God will die.)
The good reverend said God's always been there, and he's always going to be there, and he wants to be your friend, all you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart and he will and you will be saved.
I'm sitting on the living room floor, hunched over the paper, so I sit up and say, "Jesus! Come in my heart!"
Nothing.
This pisses off my sister, because she's not a morning person and she had to go stand in at the cold bus stop for at least 5 minutes without a personal heater or electric blanket.
"He'll only come in your heart if you mean it, you're just doing this out of spite."
"No, I'm having fun. And how will I know when I mean it?"
"You just will!"
"I don't understand."
"No, you don't."
And out she goes.
I never lost my religion, because I never had one. We were raised Christian, but at that young, extremely impressionable age, we didn't go to church, so it never felt real to me.
I hate church services. I always have. They bore me to tears. Even though we started going to the Methodist Church when I was old enough to sit still, I doodled most of the time in the paper books provided for us immature people.
Mom and Beck went back to church this fall after about 3 years out, and Mom acted even more immature - she kept signing things to my sister. (Nobody's deaf in my family, my mom works with deaf kids, and like any other language, you pick up bits and pieces. I know a cuss word, and that's all that matters.)
They used to go every Sunday morning, and I had to go. I said forcing it on me would make me hate it, that didn't matter, I needed to get out, so we compromised, and I got to take Dixie for a walk through a tree-lined path above a creek.
They haven't gone to a Sunday morning service for a couple months - I know they went to the midnight service on Christmas Eve. But Becky's getting a lot out of her youth group, and that's great. The Methodist church is the most liberal in the area, at least how it's preached at the one she goes to. (I'm not pressured to go.)
I feel guilty for not believing, for not going, for not caring about God.
To justify this to myself and my family, I decided if I went because I had to, and I didn't believe in it, that would make God angry and waste everyone's time. If I go because I want to, I think that's better. My devout Christian friend agrees with me - don't go because you have to, go because you feel the spirit, because you want to. Everyone in my family assumes I will find religion one day, but I don't know if I will, and I don't care if I do or not.
The crisis center I volunteer at is a 'ministry', but nobody's asked me what church I go to, or anything approaching that. All the volunteers there, including the woman in charge, are great people, exactly what Christians should be, at least in my eyes. Kind and giving. Of course, I think all people, of all religions and mindsets should be so kind.
Lois, the woman in charge, lives in my neighborhood, so I come in with her and usually leave with her. One day last fall, soon after I'd started, she asked me why I hadn't been at church lately. I said I didn't want to go, and that was it, it's never been brought up again.
You can preach at me all you want, tell me I'll go to hell, it won't work.
Religion is a private, personal thing, and I think converting people to your church (or any group) by telling me I'm going to hell if I don't believe exactly what I'm supposed to is just plain stupid. The converts you get, you got through fear.
People should be allowed to make their own conclusions, and believe what they want to believe. So much of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity is belief in one God who rules everything and everyone. You can't make someone believe something, you can't force a belief on anyone.
But that's my belief, and I'm forcing it on you.
So it goes, eh?
My devout Christian friend (this is the south, almost everyone goes to church every week) that I mentioned earlier - I believe that her faith is incredibly strong and real, because she came to it on her own, as a teenager. An internet Christian friend - I respect her beliefs for the same reason, she accepted Christ as an adult.
That rings truer to me than someone who believes because they've been going to church their whole lives, were baptized as soon as possible, etc. Not that their beliefs are less valid or real, I just view them differently. One group came to a conclusion, the other had the conclusion pushed on them before they knew what was happening.
I do respect everybody's beliefs, whether they came to them as an adult, or were raised with them.
I just don't share it, and telling me I will won't make it so.
But I shouldn't make fun of it on a Monday morning when Becky's on her way to school. That's suicide. I'm sorry, Beck. In my defense, though, all those weird Jack Chick Tracts say it's as simple as saying "God! Get in my heart! I'm sorry!" Which I know to be false, I was merely having some sarcastic fun. At a bad moment. I truly am sorry, Becky, I won't ask you any more questions about your beliefs.

Memphis Humane Society and Turning Our Dogs Into Cyborgs
All three of our dogs are officially cyborgs.
Wickett got his microchip inserted while he was sedated during his surgery. He got neutered last week. Mikey was supposed to, but the blood test revealed he was anemic. (3 points below normal) So Mikey has to get a nightly dose of 3mLs of liquid iron via syringe. First, we tried to inject it directly into his mouth. That worked a couple days, but when he spit and got it all over my clothes. Then we did a hot dog. Did fine. One night, Becky made rice, and we used that. Ate it up. So now, I'm using white bread, ripped into pieces. Wickett had to be on amoxicillin twice a day, 1 mL, same trials, but his is finally done. His stitches come out Monday. He's still all man - humped Mikey, fought Mikey, yelled at everyone, and peed on the football in the backyard.
Mikey won't be after his, because he's a weenie period. But that's Mikey.
So Mikey didn't get a microchip, because it's easier to do when they're knocked out, and they just decided to wait.
Friday's paper included the pet column, which mentioned the new Memphis Humane Society location, which I never got a chance to tour. It said it would be open from 10 to 2, and they'd be microchipping dogs for $15.
Whoa! We had to be there.
The microchips are from Home Again ID, and you have to register with them after filling out forms at the vet and the Humane Society. It sounds awesome - if they're lost without their collars, which include ID tags with their name and our number and city, and taken to a vet, they can be scanned and we'll get our brats back.
The microchips were $15 or $32.50. For $15, when a dog is scanned, the Humane Society will be called. Then the Humane Society will contact the owners. For $32.50, it goes straight to you.
So the choice was obvious for us. $30 bucks to microchip both rather than $30 each.
I want to tell you about the day, it was fun.
It started at 9:30 when I finally got out of bed. We wanted to leave at 9:30 so we wouldn't have to wait so long in line.
So we left around 10:15, because we had to clear out all of the junk in the backseat, like CDs and sunglasses, and books...
My cousin Jessica went with my mom and I, so Becky and Natasha could have fun without Jessica around. (Natasha's birthday is Sunday.) And so we'd have a third hand if needed.
Mom and Jessica rode up front, and the barrier that makes the front seat a 2 seater was up, making it a 3 seater, and locking Dixie in the back seat, until we got to the Humane Society, when she lept over it, and I had to grab her.
I rode in the back, which was a mistake, because Dixie wanted both windows to look out of. So back and forth, the entire 30 minute ride. Most of the ride was not stop and go, so Mikey could hop from front to back with abandon. He hates car rides, but always gets in. He usually curls up in the backseat and cries. He couldn't, because Dixie stepped on him.
When we got into stop and go traffic, Mikey continued his jumping. Well, he was climbing, about to do it, and Mom hit the brakes. Ker-thunk goes Captain Stupid. Just onto the seat, no damage to a brain that doesn't exist in the first place. He shakes his head often so hard, his ears flop everywhere, and it doesn't hurt. Little brain, surrounded and protected by a cushion. Like a woodpecker, but uglier.
You know it.
Then the next time, Dixie decides to move, and knocks him down. Poor little idiot.
Finally get there, long line outside, cars parked along the road, we had to park in the grass. We got there around 10:45, and the line was so long.
We got out and discovered another thing - the weather jerks were right. It was cold. And windy. The past week it's been windy, but warm - 60s and 70s. Today, 40s and 50s. They were right! How were we supposed to know?
We all had pants on, but Jessica was the only in socks and shoes. I had my Rolling Stones flipflops on, and mom had her black Crocs on. Not a jacket between us.
We got back in the car at 12:45.
2 hours! In the cold! For $15 dollar microchips.
Oh well.
But it was so much fun, I saw so many pretty dogs. The group in front of us was Basset hounds. One was full grown, the other a 4 month old baby with too much ear and a high pitched basset howl. Behind us were Pembroke Corgis, very adorable, very rotten, they got picked up a couple times.
Our surroundings were good, because the immediate dogs by Dixie, who does not like strange dogs, were small enough not to be a threat or scare her. They were also big enough not to be yippy idiots, like Mikey and Wickett.
Mikey spent most of the time on Mom's boobs, by the way. Pathetic. He was shaved, and miserable.
At one point, he was up, looking behind mom at the three Corgis who were also being held. But he was still taller than them, so he was better. Of course.
I tried to trade Mikey and Dixie for the Basset puppy, Tucker, but the owner said no. I wanted all the dogs I saw, but mom said we'd have to get rid of the ones we had. Parents.
When we got in, Mom had to fill out more forms and pay the people, so I took Dixie into the hallway that led to the area where people were taking tours. And just comforted her.
There was more than one shot station - that's all it is - a large shot with a microchip inside.
Ours was in a little room. Which was great. Mikey got his on the table, and they let me shut the door for Dixie's. She didn't squirm as much about the shot, more the strangers, so I stayed in her face.
When it was over, I walked out with Dixie, yelling, "PANIC DOG! PANIC DOG! PANIC DOG!" Everyone else before us had come out quietly. There were too many people and too many dogs, and Dixie needed her space. It got them out of my way.
On the ride home, I rode up front, so the dogs stayed in the back. They curled up and slept most of the time, but about half way through, Dixie decided to lick each back window, so Mikey had to get up, as he got stepped on.
Poor baby.
Random nuggets -
It was great 2 hours, and it took more than 15 minutes to get feeling in my fingers.

Random nuggets -
- This little kid, about 2, was so popular with the Corgis and most of the dogs. He had candy, and he was a baby, and most dogs know that little person equals food. It was so cute.
- I said, "Wow, all the breeds are here." Then I looked at Dixie and said, "Right here in my hands." That got a laugh and some kid asked me if she was chow. Yup. Part.
- Young kids wanted to pet Dixie, and they followed the doggie rules- ask the owner first. And they did. One started to pet her head, and I said, no, pet her side. Kid's Mom backed me up. When I decided to walk around with Dixie while Mom and Jess waited in line, an adult just reached down to pet her. I said no and kept walking.
- On my little solo walk, I picked up 2 bones from the Commercial Appeal's table. Dixie didn't want hers, so I gave it to the puppy. Mikey wanted his, and kept it in his mouth for about ten minutes, until Mom put him down. Then he spit it out and peed. And hammed it up, walking on two legs, king of the poodle mops.
It was great 2 hours, and it took more than 15 minutes to get feeling in my fingers.
The things we do for the dogs.
Something Funny in Today's Paper
To counter the horrid bit about Arkansas and gay people, here's something about Tennessee and gay people.
It's letter to the editor, I'm going to type it and the heading it was given, but not the person's name, that's cruel.

I'm just surprised he didn't call her "Ellen DeGenerate".
So the Commercial Appeal should stop all coverage of GLBT people or issues, because we're in the south, and such people don't exist here. And if they do, they certainly don't tell people and appear on the local TV Guide! (The picture and the article, for the record, say nothing about her sexual orientation. The article is a boring reprint from zap2it.com, and I just reread it. Nothing. I guess her continued existence in the media is an affront to our Christian values.)
Couldn't a "'shut-in' Christian" get a weekly letter from the church that has the services? Or go online and look up their website? Or call the church? (I'm assuming it's Bellevue, which is an asssult on my sister's Christian values, because of its size. It is the mother of all mega-churches and has a weekly broadcast on that bastion of liberal communism, CBS. Just checked the TV Guide - Joel Osteen has 30 minutes Sunday morning, followed by an hour of First Baptist, which narrows down nothing.)
Whatever. My point is, while the Commercial Appeal is the only daily rag in the area, there are other sources. The TV Week doesn't list Monday through Friday mornings separately, so I have to get online to find out what's on, especially when the Week says 'Varied Programs'. And I often have to check zap2it.com, because it's inaccurate or out of date, even when they do list everything.
And I don't like the ads inside.
There is the chance the letter is a joke, and I know it was the only one sent in about the TV Week. How stupid. If it's real, let's imagine the thought process. Flipping through the Sunday paper, our good Christian, gets to the ads and looks for the TV Week, as quickly as he can, because he must know when Joel Osteen is on! And, horror of horrors, Ellen DeGeneres is on the cover. She's a lesbian! She came out! And she's on the cover of the TV Week, something this poor soul must see for a whole week! She's on the cover because she's gay, not because she's hosting the Oscars, which was kind of important, especially to those in the media. (Happy Feet won! Yay!)
A bit of silliness from Western Tennessee.
It's letter to the editor, I'm going to type it and the heading it was given, but not the person's name, that's cruel.
How to ruin a nice Sunday morning
The use of the degenerate, self-proclaimed lesbian Ellen DeGeneres' pictures and article in this week's TV Week insert in the Sunday paper is an affront to every "shut-in" Christian that must refer to this section in order to locate a TV church service.
If the Hollywood leftist liberals want to use her for their Oscar MC, that is their problem, but we here in the "Bible Belt" shouldn't have to be exposed to such "trash" by "our newspaper"!

I'm just surprised he didn't call her "Ellen DeGenerate".

A bit of silliness from Western Tennessee.
Arkansas is so stupid!
Little blurb in today's paper, the B section, buried where no will see it.
Yay for Arkansas from 2004 to now!
Of course this idiot is a Republican.
Disgusting.
All right, I'm not a foster kid. But I was in the nuthouse with foster kid. And I am still a kid.
Stop with the 'kids need a mommy and a daddy' shit.
If you meant it, you'd force every parent to be married against their will, so the kids will grow up with a mommy and a daddy.
Kids need loving homes, and two gay people can be great parents as well as two straight parents.
Denying the state foster families?
Denying children a home?
It's in their best interest really, to stay in a state home rather than live in a stable home with two women. Since gay couples can't have children biologically, they can be a boon to foster programs and adoption programs - families that want children but can't have them!
But no, if you spend time with gays, you'll turn gay.
A lot of the kids at the nutward were very religious, probably because religion was the only constant in their life and it promised a better one after this.
FUCK ARKANSAS STATE SENATOR SHAWN WOMACK!
If this passes, he and his wife will take in every kid that could have been taken in by a gay family.
I mean, it's the right thing to do.
Single people shouldn't adopt or be foster parents, no mom AND dad there.
You know what?
If my mom had a son, and needed help with guy stuff after the divorce, she'd call on her brothers or her male friends. If a dad has a daughter and is widowed, he goes to his sisters or female friends for help with periods and boobs. What stops a gay family from doing the same?
The Vice President has a lesbian daughter. She's going to have a baby. (IVF? I haven't followed.) These laws don't matter to her, she's rich.
But Christ, if we had compassionate people in the White House, she could serve as a reason to stop this.
But we don't.
Gays are immoral, terrible people who recruit children, etc, etc.
I hate the south.
Lawmaker seeks ban of gay foster parents.
Little Rock - A proposal to reinstate a ban on gay foster parents overturned by Arkansas' Supreme Court will be introduced to the legistlature Monday, a state senator said.
Sen. Shawn Womack said he plans to file a bill that would ban gays and lesbians from becoming foster parents, a prohibition that justices struck down last year.
"As a legislature we need to take a serious look at trying to uphold that policy in a way that's constitutional and in the best interest of the child," said Womack, R-Mountain Home.
In June, justices upheld a lower court decision that threw out a ban on homosexuals serving as foster parents. Four people sued after the policy was put in effect in 1999 and the state Child Welfare Board dropped the policy after losing a court fight in 2004.
