If Roe vs. Wade is overturned, abortion will be banned in the state.
Until that happens, they've settled for offering women considering an abortion to listen to the fetus's heartbeat and see a sonogram. And a minor who doesn't have her parent's consent has to get it from the courts.
Last week, I remember seeing in the paper that Mississippi has ONE abortion clinic, in Jackson. One!
The Alabama Planned Parenthood is quoted in the article in today's paper saying if they really cared, they'd work with PP by not blocking contraceptives and comprehensive sexual education.
No wonder there are so many teen parents around here. The only sex ed we got at school was a video on STDs and a handout on wearing a condom.
There's a common thing brought up by anti-choicers - "If the fetus isn't a person, why is someone charged with killing two people when they kill or hurt a pregnant person?"
Well, the woman chooses to have an abortion, she doesn't choose to be attacked.
I think it's that simple.
As for minor's needing court orders, do they just want more teen parents in Mississippi?
I know why a minor wouldn't have her parents' consent, she doesn't want them to know she had sex!
But it's not law yet, Gov. Barbour hasn't signed it yet. He's expected to.
